Sometimes, technology can be defeating. For years, I've maintained my own fully-featured blog / gallery / forum software running on a server in my living room. I've run it using Community Server. While upgrading to the latest version, I've come to the realization (via a nice email comment from Dave Burke) that CS is just too much overhead for what I want. In the past, I've had visions of a community site for my gaming buddies, where we could all blog, share pictures, and maybe even keep some small forums. But that's just not realistic. All I need is a place where I can blog, and post pictures.
So I scrapped Community Server. Dave suggested .NetBlogEngine, an open-source .NET blogging app. So I made the switch this morning. Long story short - I could have put in hours, and kept maintaining an install of SQL Server on my home machine to have all my previous posts intact. But that defeats the purpose of "lightweight". So I scrapped everything. Losing the blog posts isn't a big deal, but the gallery needs to migrate somewhere. I should probably import all those pictures into Flickr.
So, gentle readers, here is the new blog. Boardgamegeek convention posts will follow shortly.
